On Friday, November 14, 2014 , the Connecticut Aero Tech School In Hartford received a donation from Pratt and Whitney – a PW4098 commercial engine (a test engine for Boeing 777 aircraft).

Pratt & Whitney’s donation of the PW4098 test engine, one of three engines within the company’s PW4000 family, will provide Aero Tech students with first-hand knowledge of the technology and mechanics driving today’s commercial engines. In addition to providing Aero Tech with the engine for use in their engine power plant curriculum, Pratt & Whitney continues to offer Aero Tech seniors the same two-week Base Line Training courses it offers to commercial customers at its East Hartford customer center.

Brad Fox, a retired 20-year firefighter from Ft. Meyers Fla., moved back to his home state of Connecticut and began his training at Aero Tech four years ago. Fox graduated from Aero Tech on June 30, 2014 and began his new career as a technician in Pratt & Whitney’s mechanics lab on July 7, 2014. “As an Aero Tech student, I had the opportunity to work on a number of Pratt & Whitney engines at the school: the JT-9, JT-8 and the PT-6 from Pratt & Whitney Canada. Every facet of what I learned at Aero Tech – electronics, electrical, hydraulics and mechanics – I use in Pratt & Whitney’s mechanics lab every day.”
